Podcast Hosting is a bad idea
Hosting is not
necessarily free. The biggest problem with this
idea is that you will put all of your hopes in
the quality of service of your audio in the hands
of a host that
isn't able to give you any guarantees of quality
of service, and isn't incented to invest in their
own infrastructure because you are not paying anything
for hosting. Its a BAD
There's an old saying.... "You pay peanuts, you get
monkeys!". That is so appropriate when it comes
to picking a Podcast
Hosting provider. We get so
many people moving to our services at CyberEars.com
who have hosted with other hosting providers and
complain of lack of service, VERY slow speeds,
being relegated to less than sturdy or quick servers,
and their listeners are just not hearing their
Thinking of hosting
with a FREE, Low Quality Podcast host?
NOT a good idea if you want to be listed
on iTunes. Read below:
Most listeners will find your audio podcasts
by searching for topics that they like on
podcast registries. The biggest of these
registries is Apple's
iTunes. In order to
be listed on iTunes, you need a proper RSS
feed setup, and quality hosting of content.
If you choose a host that gives you slow,
unreliable content, there is a high chance
you will be removed without warning from
iTunes. Here's an excerpt from Apple's web
"In most cases, we will remove
the podcast from iTunes, especially if
we find that the podcast is no longer available
at the feed URL." and
"Your podcast may be rejected
for a variety of reasons, including but
not limited to: Technical problems, usually
the lack of episodes or the inability to
download or play episodes."
So quality counts. You go to the trouble
to record your Podcast... Don't disrespect
it by putting it on a low grade host and
expecting it to be a big hit.
Let's face it... You spend a lot of money, time
and energy putting together the best audio show
you can. Once you finish the production and upload
it to a host, you want to know that the audio will
get heard. After all, that's why you recorded it.
There is no guarantee of service provided with
hosts that offer less than professional hosting
services, and you'll never know if people can't
find you or hear you. Sure, you might get the odd
person telling you that they had problems downloading
your Podcast. But by then its too late. Its the
people that don't get to hear you, that will never
tell you that they couldn't hear your show.
Do you really want to put all of your faith that
your podcast will get heard if you place it with
a FREE host? Is that really sensible? Otherwise
it suggests that your attention to your own production
is reflected in the host that you choose to serve
it to the world. Its just not good business.
